Alongside Matthew's regular guest lecturing in post-graduate conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music, Matthew has devised a unique conducting course that is run by the South West Music School. The Course is designed to challenge exceptional students to think differently about the way they create music, introducing the student to a variety of musical disciplines that would not necessarily come with studying an instrument alone, helping to broaden musical knowledge and musical confidence, in turn encouraging individuality and leadership. Based on monthly classes meeting in Wiltshire, Cornwall and Devon the course is concluded with a residential in which the participants will conduct an orchestra made up of students and members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Students will not only be taught the physical craft of conducting, but also focus on the vast and varied disciplines necessary for leading an ensemble, such as score reading, instrumentation, orchestration, transposition, advanced harmony, aural awareness and repertoire knowledge. If you are from the South-West and are interested in participating in this programme please contact Matthew directly at this website or contact Lisa Tregail at the South West Music School on 01392 460770.
